Show-Me Events events are designed to showcase the talents and skills of our members in a variety of areas. Show-Me Skills are similar to National FCCLA’s Skill Demonstration Events, where most of the events will be held in person, with a few being submitted prior to the conference. The specifics of Show-Me Skills and each individual event can be found below.
Fall Leadership Conference Events
Banner Challenge
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
A team event, recognizes a team that creates a large, colorful banner which illustrates their interpretation of the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference theme.
Culinary Food Art
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 2, 3, 4
An individual event, showcases the best of participants’ creative and artistic skills in utilizing an assortment of fruits and vegetables to design and create an interesting food art item that could be used as a centerpiece for a circus-themed children’s party.
Culinary Knife Skills
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 2, 3, 4
An individual event, showcases the best of the participants’ knife skills. Participants will produce a minimum of six uniform pieces for each knife cut, meeting industry standards and demonstrating proper safety and sanitation procedures.
Fashion Sketch
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 2, 3, 4
An individual event, recognizes members for their ability to design and sketch a croquis based on a provided design scenario.
FCCLA Creed Speaking & Interpretation
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2
An individual event, recognizes first-year members through grade 10 for their ability to recite and interpret the FCCLA creed within the context of their personal philosophy. This event provides an opportunity for members to gain self-confidence in public speaking while learning the values and philosophy expressed by the organization in which they hold membership.
FCCLA Recruit
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3
An individual or team event, recognizes members who use the planning process to create a project that will encourage more students to be involved in FCCLA. The project focuses on how the members’ chapter will recruit new members for the school year and encourage member involvement throughout the school year.
Lesson Plan Development & Modification
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 2, 3, 4
An individual event, recognizes members for their ability to develop an original lesson plan and offer tailored modifications based on a provided student profile, ensuring that the student’s specific learning needs are met.
Photography
Fall Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual event, recognizes members for their ability to capture and present a portfolio of five (5) impactful and creative photographs that highlight the competitor’s interest in one of the four career pathways aligned with FCCLA.
State Leadership Conference Events
$20 Clothing Challenge
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual or team event, showcases the participant’s creativity in purchasing an outfit for $20 or less from resale venues (garage sales, consignment or thrift stores, etc.) that represents an intended use for the selected outfit.
Cake Decorating
State Leadership Conference | Levels 2, 3, 4
An individual or team event, recognizes participants for their ability to demonstrate their skill producing cake decorations using pastry arts equipment and techniques. Participants will prepare a decorated cake which celebrates the 2024-2025 overarching theme – The Leadership Spectacular.
Fiber Art
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual event, recognizes participants who develop skills in sewing construction, and needlecraft to develop creative abilities and knowledge of design principles in constructing attractive projects. Examples include, but are not limited to: Needlepoint, cross-stitch, bags, purses, pillows, stuffed animals, etc.
Impromptu Speaking
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual event, recognizes participants for their ability to address a topic relating to FCCLA and Family Consumer Sciences without prior preparation. The ability to express one’s thoughts in an impromptu situation while maintaining poise, self-confidence, logical organization of point, and conversational speaking are important assets in family, career, and community situations.
Pin It!
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
Create a design that starts a conversation about the great state of Missouri and have national attendees searching to find the Missouri pin to add to their collection. You can create anything that represents Missouri or Missouri FCCLA. All artwork should be school appropriate and use professional language. Your designs can be created by illustration or digitally and should be original – templates from graphic design software, such as Canva and Adobe, will be disqualified. All final art submissions must be submitted digitally and ready for print.
PR Photo Challenge
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual or team event, encourages members to showcase their chapters participation within FCCLA. Through this project you should be able to see in a glance what FCCLA looks like in your chapter.
Toward New Horizons
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3
An individual event, recognizes the participant’s ability to create a poster reflecting the importance of FCCLA and/or Family Consumer Sciences and Human Services (FCSHS) education to their personal growth and leadership development.
Toys that Teach
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual event, recognizes members for their ability to design, build, and demonstrate an original homemade toy which provides learning and play for either an individual child or small group of children. The toy is to be constructed of common, everyday household items, meet safety guidelines, and be easy to carry and use.
Venture NLC
State Leadership Conference | Levels 1, 2, 3, 4
An individual event, allows participants to create an itinerary for one FCCLA member to travel to Orlando, Florida for National Leadership Conference. This trip will include planning for travel to and from the conference location, FCCLA registration fees, lodging, meals, and entertainment while staying within a $2,000.00 budget. This event will incorporate Financial Fitness basics of financial literacy while planning to attend the National Leadership Conference.
